Whats Old is New

Image
I used to be a bicycle technician by trade. And, if I'm being honest, anything with wheels catches my eye.      This bike in-particular, an old Soma, is a bike thats been around for some time and definitely seen a lot of miles. To the untrained eye, may just seem like another bike. But, if you were to look a little closer, you'll start to see a lot of unique parts that have been hand-picked by the owner to make it one of a kind.     While my wife and I were walking along the beach, I saw this bike and all I could think of was the amount of time and effort it would take to get a bike of this age to its current condition. A lot of TLC (Tender Loving Care) as they say. Plus, the ability to see past the age and wear and see what the bike could be. Now, a very reliable and beautiful commuter bicycle.     I think this bike compares very well to us and our talents. Don't let the failures and struggles in the attempt to improve our abilit...

The Distant Ship

Image
This is one of the first photos I shot when my wife and I had gotten to Carlsbad, CA for our honeymoon.      We had finally gotten settled into our room on the second floor and I stepped out to take in the ocean breeze. As I looked out on the ocean, I saw this ship floating on the horizon right between two palm trees.          It's moments like these that I'm glad that I always have my camera near by. I ran inside, grabbed my Canon 90d, through my telephoto on, and got the shot!

The Mustang

This is probably one of my favorite photos from the trip and I have to give the majority of the credit to my wife.      We had just gotten off the road that runs right alongside the beach and we were headed back to our hotel. We were about to cross a set of train tracks when the train-crossing lights came on.     I pulled up to the crossing gate , and I looked to my left to see a beautiful 1966 Ford Mustang. It looked to have been lightly restored, but still the original paint. Classic set of wheels not pulling away from the look of the car. Looking back, I saw the sunet over the ocean and a wonderful scene unfurled itself. All I could think of was how amazing a photo of this scene would be.      My wife, who can apparently read minds, looked at me and told me to run out and shoot the photo. "You've got enough time!" she said. So I hopped out of our Bronco, snagged my camera, jumped across the median into the opposite lane and...

Honeymoon Trip

Image
Recently, my wife and I just got back from our honey moon in Carlsbad, California. It's a place her family has always gone for vacationing and their "go-to" for the beach.     Carlsbad, CA is absolutely beautiful. A small surf town with lots of "Ma and Pa" style shops and restaurants. It seems to be so much less busy than the neighboring bigger cities like San Diego and LA. It's quiet and relaxing. If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend stopping and taking in the "vibes" (I hate that word, but it does the job) of this awesome place.     A lot of the upcoming photos that I'll be posting are going to be from our honeymoon trip. I'll try to include a little bit of the story behind the shot.      Hope you enjoy!
