The Wheelie

Image
This photo is still one of my favorites as a beginner photographer.    I was shooting on a Canon Rebel T6, a very basic entry level dslr, but it opened up my world and showed me what could be done with a proper camera.    This was shot at the last race ever held at Canyon Raceway in the northern Phoenix Valley. This rider had a late start at the beginning of his race, so being a good sport, he put on a show for the crowd.     I had just learned how to "pan" with a moving object to capture it in focus while retaining the motion in the photo. I hadn't been very successful with it up to this point and as you can see with this photo, the subject still isnt as crisp as I'd prefer. But, this was my most successful attempt at the time, and I was so stoked on my results, I made it my goal that day to get at least one crisp and clean photo showing the motion and speed of the riders.

The Rider

Image
Shot this photo while on a solo motorcycles ride up to Prescott, AZ.      I really enjoy capturing motion. To me, it's kind of like capturing a feeling.      I caught up with this fellow rider on my way back down the mountain, and since I had my gear with me, I just had to get a shot of him. I sped past him and tried to give myself enough time to get my camera and snap a few shots. After snapping the shots I was able to catch up with him again and we stopped and had a great chat about bikes and cameras.      I definitely  missed focus slightly and didn't pan at his exact speed, but its still a great memory. And, isn't that was taking pictures is all about?

The Bronco

Image
This is the Ford Bronco. My Ford Bronco specifically.      This is one of my favorite vehicles to drive. It's a 2 door Base model of the full size Bronco line up. So it doesn't have lockers, fancy electronic off-road features, or even a limited slip diff. It's got Ford's 7 speed manual transmission (which is fantastic by the way) paired with their I-4 ecoboost engine. Again, nothing super fancy, and I think that makes me love it even more.     Though it doesn't have all the fancy features, it's no slouch on the trails. As long as you've got momentum, it'll get up anything! This shot was taken in Arizona's BLM land just north of the Phoenix Valley. There's some great off-roading in that area. It had just rained and the conditions were perfect. I had seen this spot on our way in and I knew I had to stop and check it out.      I love the rocky hill in the background, the dark clouds in the sky, and the foliage in the foreground. ...

The Carolla

Image
This is from a photo shoot I did with a buddy of mine and his group of friends and their cars.      We all met near a local lake and I had them take turns pulling onto the "boat launch" pad.      This Carolla Hatchback was probably my favorite car that day. I just love the lines and how they worked with the lighting that we had. Plus, the dark bronze wheels with the bright silver finish on the car just brought everything together.

The Thoughts

Image
This is another one of my favorite shots from Carlsbad, CA. Technically this is in Oceanside, CA on the Oceanside pier.     We were sitting on a bench overlooking the ocean as the sun was setting when I saw this guy leaned against the railing with his headphones on, also watching the sunset.      Though this scene looks calm, there was actually quite a lot of busy people outside this shot, which is the reason I got it in the first place. He was sitting there and couldn't hear any of the bustle, just relaxed as could be.      I feel like no one can truly relax anymore. Even when we do have time to take a break, the phones come out and we hop onto some of the busiest style of social media we've ever had.      Slow down. Enjoy the moment. Enjoy the people you have with you in that moment.
